ABOUT THE ORGANISATION AND THE ROLE

The UJC ensures the well-being, sustainability and progression of the Cape Town Jewish community through various philanthropic community development and fundraising initiatives for over 30 communal organisations in the city.

As the result of new projects at the UJC they are now recruiting a full time Senior Bookkeeper to provide support in the function and management of some of the organisation’s entities. 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfil the book-keeping function to balance sheet on Pastel.
  • Managing the books for CTJC properties and some smaller organisations (totalling 7 entities)
  • Collating and processing supplier invoice payments for all clients
  • Invoicing for recoveries from tenants
  • Overseeing debt collection
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Petty cash
  • Month-end journal
  • Prepare management accounts and monthly reports.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

1. Work experience and industry exposure

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Bookkeeping is advantageous
  • Minimum 5-years bookkeeping experience is essential as is experience in managing complexity, particularly in relation to managing properties.

2. Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills

  • A self-driven individual who is able to work autonomously while maintaining open channels of communication with a team
  • Ability to communicate telephonically in an effective and professional manner and to effectively respond to queries and deal with complaints
  • A proactive individual who uses their initiative to ensure service and performance are always to a high standard
  • Ability to professionally liaise with internal and external stakeholders

3. Excellent Administration and Organisational Skills

  • Organised, meticulous and systems oriented, with the ability to capture data accurately
  • Able to analyse and interpret data and provide meaningful reports.
  • Solid working knowledge of Excel is essential
  • Experience with Pastel, and/any other accounting package, advantageous.

4. General

  • Confidentiality, ethics and integrity are paramount in this position
