Part-time Fundraising Canvasser – UJC Cape Town
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION AND THE ROLE
The United Jewish Campaign (UJC) plays a vital role in sustaining Jewish life in Cape Town, providing funding to 36 beneficiary organisations that support education, welfare, healthcare, and community development. Every contribution we receive helps build a stronger, more resilient community.
They are seeking a motivated and personable Fundraising Canvasser to join its dynamic team on a part-time basis. Working with UJC means being part of a team that actively uplifts the Jewish community of Cape Town. The successful candidate will engage with individuals from our existing donor database via phone calls to encourage increased giving, reactivation of lapsed donors, and commitment to a shared mission.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contact existing and past donors to encourage monthly or annual giving
- Use on/offline engagement platforms to fundraise and update database accordingly
- Build rapport and communicate the impact of their donations
- Update donor information accurately in Salesforce CRM
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive conversations with care
- Collaborate with fundraising and community engagement teams.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal applicant will have the following competencies:
1. Work experience and industry exposure
- Previous experience in fundraising, customer service, or telesales is essential
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders and members of the community
- Background in non-profits, NGOs, or community-focused initiatives is an advantage.
2. Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Excellent telephone skills, able to build rapport and relationships
- Confident individual who is a persuasive communicator
- Able to manage relationships with donors and community members of a wide variety of ages and personalities.
3. Excellent Administration and Organisational Skills
- Organised and efficient with previous CRM experience and ability to learn new systems fast
- Excellent administrative and database management skills log calls and update donor information
- Salesforce experience preferred, but not essential.
4. Specific / General Requirements
- Tech savvy: comfortable using computer systems and other digital tools such as CRMs
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
- Energetic, proactive, and mission-driven
- Passionate about being a part of the CT Jewish community and making a real difference in the lives of fellow community members while building valuable communication and fundraising skills.
