ABOUT THE ORGANISATION AND THE ROLE

Insrep Construction, a well-established construction firm based in Cape Town, is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Bookkeeper. This pivotal role in a family-owned business within a small, well-established team, involves managing payroll and bookkeeping functions across three companies, ensuring full compliance with statutory bodies such as BIBC, FEM, and SARS, and maintaining up-to-date and accurate financial records using Pastel Payroll and QuickBooks.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Bookkeeping

  • Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks for three companies
  • Generate and follow up on invoices; match payments and reconcile accounts
  • Oversee supplier payments, bank reconciliations, VAT and cashflow reporting
  • Support year-end audit processes and documentation for BEE and POPIA compliance

2. Payroll

  • Manage full payroll function using Pastel Payroll for weekly and monthly staff payments
  • Administer submissions and contributions to BIBC and FEM, including claims and reports
  • Handle payroll tax reconciliations and reports (EMP201, EMP501, EE Certificates)
  • Track staff advances and ensure compliance with all payroll-related legislation and timelines

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

1. Work experience and industry exposure

  • Minimum 3-5 years of payroll and bookkeeping experience (preferably in construction but not essential)
  • Proficient in Pastel Payroll, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel or similar software
  • Knowledge of BIBC, FEM, SARS, and EE compliance

2. Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills

  • Professional, clear, and respectful communication via email and phone
  • Able to handle sensitive financial data confidentially
  • Ability to communicate in English and Afrikaans is advantageous
  • Assertive personality that understand bookkeeping and is able to make well-informed recommendations to the business
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to integrate into a settles and established team.

3. Excellent Administration and Organisational Skills

  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-managed, reliable, and deadline-driven
  • Skilled in handling reconciliations, ledger reviews, and tax document preparation.

4. General

  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office, Payroll & Accounting Software)
  • POPIA-compliant document handling
  • Ability to work across multiple companies with accuracy and efficiency.
