Debtor’s Clerk- Union of Orthodox Synagogues (UOS) Cape Town
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION AND THE ROLE
The Union of Orthodox Synagogues (UOS), Cape Town is a leading organisation serving the Cape Town Orthodox Jewish community, providing support in various essential areas, including Kashrut, Shechita, Beth Din, and community services. From cradle to grave, the organisation promotes Torah and the Jewish way of life taking care of all our Jewish needs through the 4 legal entities that fall under this umbrella organisation.
They are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Debtors Clerk to join their dynamic team. This pivotal role involves managing invoicing, receipting, and donor records while ensuring accurate and timely financial documentation across multiple areas. The ideal candidate will be dedicated, proactive, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of service.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Invoicing:
- Manage invoicing for Kashrut, Shechita, Beth Din, and UCK.
- Issue invoices for donations, maintaining accurate donor records.
2. Financial Reporting:
- Issue monthly statements for Kashrut, Shechita, Beth Din, and UCK.
- Record and track donor funds received (UOS, UCK, and CMB).
3. Documentation Management:
- Collate funeral documentation and maintain monthly funeral statistics and data.
4. Receipting:
- Accurately receipt payments for Kashrut, Shechita, Beth Din, UCK, and CMB.
5. General:
- Additional day-to-day ad hoc debtor’s duties as and when required.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
A self-driven and dynamic problem solver, the ideal applicant must have the following competencies:
1. Work experience and industry exposure
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a financial or debtors’ clerk role.
- Exposure to non-profit or religious organisations will be advantageous.
- Proficiency in Sage and/or Pastel or similar accounting software is essential.
2. Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to professionally liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to deal with challenging situations and personalities in a professional, discreet and dignified way.
- Able to provide ongoing progress reports, budget proposals and recommendations to the Management teams.
3. Excellent Coordination and Administration Skills
- A highly organised and self-motivated person able to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines in a calm, systematic and proactive manner.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, able to think on their feet and come up with creative solutions.
4. Specific requirements
- A high level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for financial reporting and reconciliation tasks.
