Communications and Engagement Manager – Mensch
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION AND THE ROLE
Mensch activates, supports, and empowers the Jewish community to help create positive social change in South Africa. We provide training and networking to social change-makers, facilitate immersive volunteering, and offer philanthropic advice and services to achieve our mission.
We are seeking a Communication and Engagement Manager to lead the development and implementation of Mensch’s communication and engagement strategy. This mid-senior role will shape our brand identity, manage marketing systems, and drive stakeholder engagement to grow the Mensch network, funding pool, and awareness of our work.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Communication and Engagement
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication and engagement strategy aligned with organisational goals.
- Oversee the update of Mensch’s corporate identity and brand guidelines.
- Redevelop the Mensch website in collaboration with web designers.
- Create marketing templates in Canva and Mailchimp for easy use by the team.
2. Marketing & Campaign Management
- Work closely with the Programme Team to design and execute marketing campaigns for programmes, events, and organisational milestones.
- Manage social media strategy and content calendars across platforms.
- Monitor analytics and adjust strategies to maximise engagement and reach.
- Coordinate with external designers and vendors for high-quality creative outputs.
3. Engagement & Fundraising Support
- Drive communication and engagement to enhance participation in all Mensch programmes.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to support fundraising initiatives.
- Develop donor communication materials and engagement campaigns.
- Collaborate with Programme Manager and Administrator to leverage monitoring and evaluation data for impactful storytelling.
- Build relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the Jewish community to grow Mensch.
4. Systems & Processes

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal applicant will have the following competencies:
1. Work experience and industry exposure
- Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in communications, marketing, or engagement roles.
- Proven experience in brand development and management, and digital marketing.
- Exposure to the non-profit sector is desirable.
- Exposure to the Jewish community is advantageous.
2. Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills
- Ability to brief and manage external designers and vendors effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship-building skills and collaborative approach.
3. Excellent Administration and Organisational Skills
- Ability to develop and implement strategies and systems.
- Strong project management skills with attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a small, dynamic team environment. Proactive, creative, and solutions oriented.
- Strong proficiency in Canva, Mailchimp, and social media platforms.

- Passion for social impact and working in the non-profit sector.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional decorum.
