Property Maintenance Supervisor – Jewish Community Services (JCS)
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION AND THE ROLE
JCS is seeking an experienced Property Maintenance Supervisor/ Maintenance Foreman to oversee the care and upkeep of our residential flats, office facilities, and aged-care property portfolio. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and excels at balancing technical expertise with team management.
As a key member of our facilities and property maintenance team, you will take responsibility for the smooth running of day-to-day repair operations, ensuring all buildings are safe, compliant, and well-maintained. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong leadership capability and a passion for delivering exceptional maintenance standards.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operational & Workflow Management
- Manage end-to-end maintenance workflow, including taking client calls, allocating jobs, and overseeing requests from start to finish.
- Prioritise tasks to ensure efficient turnaround and minimal disruption to tenants and operations.
- Coordinate daily team activities to maintain seamless operations across all properties.
2. Quality Control & Property Standards
- Conduct building inspections, spot checks, and quality assessments.
- Ensure all maintenance work meets compliance and industry standards.
- Maintain consistently high levels of property cleanliness, safety, and functionality.
3. Technical Assessment & Problem-Solving
- Evaluate repair requests and use technical knowledge to determine the best course of action.
- Accurately assess when external contractors are required and coordinate their involvement.
- Provide expert guidance to the team on maintenance techniques, materials, and troubleshooting.
4. Hands-On Maintenance Work
- Work actively alongside the maintenance team on general repairs, installations, and upkeep.
- Assist in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, gardening, and grounds maintenance as needed.
- Serve as a technical role model and mentor for junior maintenance staff.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal applicant will have the following competencies:
1. Work experience and industry exposure
- Strong technical skills
- Extensive experience in general building maintenance, including:
plumbing, electrical repairs, carpentry, painting, grounds maintenance, and general facilities management. - Ability to diagnose faults, troubleshoot issues, and recommend effective repair solutions.
2. Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to supervise a maintenance team while remaining an active team participant.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating tasks, liaising with stakeholders, and resolving challenges on site.
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and accountability.
3. Excellent Administration and Organisational Skills
- Highly organised and able to manage multiple workstreams
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
- Excellent time management with the ability to prioritise and multitask.
- Strong administrative capability for tracking work orders, materials, schedules, and inspections.
- Ability to maintain calm and efficiency under pressure.
4. Specific Requirements
- Valid South African Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated technical maintenance competence across multiple disciplines.
- Must be a South African citizen.
